WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. . .
Sandy kidded, "Who's that woman?" Well, Frank's hugging Kristine Wallen, the amazing Walmart employee who rounded up winter coats, hats, gloves, pajamas, socks and more. And she guided us in our toy shopping for 64 Head Start preschoolers. And then she rang up the whole shebang!

Thanks a million, Kristine! And thank you shoppers and wrappers -- Dawn, Vee, Ed, Bob B., Gary, Dianne, Don, Patty, Frank (who had the all-important credit card!), and the new Walmart manager, Cat, and several other employees who helped with the wrapping of toys.
Dawn and Santa, who sounds a lot like Ron Olivett, greeted the kiddos on stage at the Buck Center when we had those 65 kids and their teachers to a fun holiday lunch. In those bags are the winter clothes and toys from Walmart.

We are grateful to Walmart for many things, including a $2,000 grant to help with the cost of all this -- our biggest year out of 19, or is it 20, that we've been helping these kids. Another $2,500 or so came from our fund-raising. These little kids are Frank's passion, and we get to help.

MESSAGE FROM
PRESIDENT ED:

Hey Englewood Rotarians,

Frank and Vee pulled off a very successful party on Dec. 7 for the Village for Early Childhood Education in Littleton. This benefitted 64 3-5-year old preschoolers from the Village. Shopping for clothes and toys was done at Walmart on Nov. 27. The fun part took place at the Buck Center when gifts and clothing were distributed to the preschoolers following lunch, Christmas music, and Santa visit. Many Rotary Club members participated in the program.  Thanks to all.

Dawn Shepherd and her teams have completed the Salvation Army holiday bell ringing crusade. Club members took 2-hour shifts of duty at King Soopers on Belleview and Yosemite Nov. 24 and Dec. 1. Many thanks to everyone who participated.

Remember to sign up for the holiday party at The Guild on Dec.14.  RSVP to Glory 303-796-8111. A great menu is planned as well as considerable red and white wine left over from the winetasting fundraiser.  Address is 3435 S. Inca St., Suite C, Englewood 80110. Thanks to Vee and Glory for organizing this.

Good news from Brookdale Meridian.  Floor 4 construction likely will start during the first quarter 2019. When it is time for our club to change the location for lunch, Brookdale will arrange a room for us on Floor 1.

There is no Happy Hour during December due to the holidays.

Rotary recognizes UK Prime Minister Theresa May with polio champion award

Rotary honored Theresa May, prime minister of the United Kingdom, with the Polio Eradication Champion Award for her leadership and political support toward ending polio.

Rotary International President Barry Rassin presented the prestigious award to Alistair Burt, the UK minister of state for international development and minister of state for the Middle East, at a round-table discussion on polio eradication on 27 November in London.

Rassin told Burt, who accepted the award on May’s behalf, that the UK has repeatedly demonstrated an unwavering commitment toward a polio-free world.

Under May’s leadership in 2017, the UK pledged about $130 million for 2017-19, bringing the country’s cumulative support for polio eradication to $1.6 billion — second only to the United States.
