WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. . .
Paper, paper, everywhere.

Our Military and Veterans Appreciation and Support program is almost twice as big a last year. We'll be helping 64 families at Thanksgiving and Christmas. And what this has meant for the last week of preparation is a LOT of paperwork. Ed has input a huge spread sheet of family names, who's shopping for them and how much to spend. The picture above is from Patty -- the name labels we'll need to make sure these hundreds of gifts and food items get to the right families at Peterson and Shriever Air Force Bases and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Next up: shopping and wrapping.
MESSAGE FROM
PRESIDENT ED:

Hey Englewood Rotarians,

WECOME BACK. WE’VE BEEN MIA FOR 2 WEEKS.

Military project planners have been busy—no hiatus there. We have volunteers to custom shop for clothing and toys for 64 military families from three Air Force bases in Colorado Springs.

We have resolved many logistics issues regarding transportation of purchases, Costco grocery shopping, organizing family packages, military personnel assistance, arranging finances, coordinating with other Rotary Clubs, etc. Many thanks to all volunteers who are helping.  D-Day is Nov. 16-17.

And then we have
the kids' holiday party. . .

Frank, Vee and team have also been busy making arrangements for the Littleton Head Start holiday program. D-Day for that event is Nov. 27 for Walmart shopping and Dec. 7 for the party at the uck Center. More detail will be coming on that.

District News: The District has reminded us to review a number of upcoming events:  Hurricane Michael disaster relief, upcoming workshops, Annual Fund and Polio Plus funding, nominations for District Governor.  You can review these events on the District website.  I will also provide information on these at the Nov. 7 meeting.

More of Our News: We are adding to the regular meeting agendas a 1-3 minute segment Patty is calling WOW, because that's how we ought to feel about all that we do for others in our community and beyond. (Patty says: Don't forget: We are awesome!)

The purpose of this will be to better inform members of the various projects we support (not to request funds or volunteers). Frank will kick it off this Wed. with an overview of our holiday gifts and lunch with Santa for Head Start kids. I will set up a schedule for future speakers.

Friends, our member Spence Mamber is having gall bladder surgery tomorrow. In his own words:
"If I could use all the help that’s been offered, I’d REALLY be in bad shape 😂
Nurse Nancy is in her element & I’m getting fantastic care from all. Now to get out of here!"

We'll have a card at Wednesday's meeting.

ROTARY EDUCATION:

More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population.

Rotary International's goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.

Englewood Rotary has a longstanding tradition of supporting education. We have given more than $100,000 in scholarships to graduates of Englewood High School and Colorado's Finest School of Choice.

We have mentored elementary school kids through our reading volunteers for more than 25 years.

We have supported education programs in Senegal.

We also give an annual Literacy Award to a District 5450 Club who has shown outstanding effort in the field of literacy.
