Hey, it's Newspaper Week at Englewood Rotary! (I just made that up.)
Our speaker will be Thelma Grimes, who is the South Metro Editor of the newspaper group that includes the Englewood Herald. I'll let her explain the ownership, with The Colorado Sun being the biggest player.
I've asked Thelma to talk to us about community journalism, because, boy, have things changed!
Thelma and I haven't met, but we already have a few things in common. I was editor of the Herald and papers in Littleton and Highlands Ranch, back in the late 1990s. Now they're hers.
And then way back I worked for a newspaper in Ridgecrest, Calif., which was owned by what is now called Wick Communications. Back then, it was just Mr. Wick and his son from North Dakota. Turns out, Thelma also worked for Wick, though long after the Wicks I knew had gone to newspaper heaven. Mr. Wick traveled with a Bible. Walt wasn't as pious.
Also tomorrow we will have a board meeting. Shouldn't be long, but we need to talk about selling peaches again and a few other things.
