Bob and Dolly -- I couldn't resist.
As you recall, our former Assistant Governor Ken Hope presented the club with an opportunity to participate in Imagination Library, a wonderful literacy outreach from the Dolly Parton Foundation.
Ken brought "Dolly" to the meeting, and Bob jumped at the chance of a photo with the country diva, lifesize in cardboard.
I'm sharing it here because our Board of Directors recently approved a $1,000 donation to get our club involved in Imagination Library. Ken's home club, Centennial, has done all the groundwork, including significant bureaucratic hoop-jumping. We get to piggyback and skip that pain.
Imagination Library provides books to children from birth to 5 years old, free. Currently, Ken has signed up 89 children in the City of Englewood. We'll be checking in on some of these recipients, and we may choose to expand our commitment.
The State of Colorado is matching our local funds, so there's a lot of bang for buck in this project.
Our club has a long history of supporting literacy. Each year we award recognition to a club in our district with the best literacy outreach. And there have been times in our own history where we had multiple literacy projects of our own, in the same year.
At the January meeting the Board of Directors also approved a $500 contribution to Shelter Box, the program that sends equipment to victims of natural disasters all over the world.
See you tomorrow! Lunch will be yummy. Patty
