THE ROTARY CLUB OF
ENGLEWOOD
THE ROTARY HUB
Here's our President Shawn Lewis with the founder of the Backpack Society, June Everett, and Society development director Laura Linville, with our partner in our Epic Day of Service, Brianna Shermann, president of the Denver Metro South Rotary Club.

We started at the far end, and filled our bags with items from each black basket, ending with about four pounds of food that kids will take home on the weekends.
Our volunteers! That's Evelyn in the middle, Patty and Bob's granddaughter who really like filling bags!

Our day on the assembly line

Forty Rotarians were on the assembly line at the Backpack Society in Highlands Ranch Saturday. We filled 1,000 bags with food that will go into the backpacks of local school students who are struggling with food insecurity, help that is the Backpack Society’s mission.

Into the bags went canned chili, soup and vegetables; mac and cheese mix, fruit cups, cheese, chips, granola bars, instant oatmeal, and more – food that can sustain a student over a weekend when there are no free breakfasts and lunches at school. It’s food they’re likely to eat, and food they alone can prepare.

The volunteers were from the Rotary Club of Denver Metro South, some community partners, and the Rotary Club of Englewood, which also made a financial contribution.

The volunteer effort was part of the Epic Day of Service, declared by Rotary clubs in Colorado and Wyoming to make a big difference in the lives of people in their  communities all on one day.

“What an Epic Day,” said Brianna Sherman, president of the Denver Metro South Club and a key organizer of the major event.

“More than 60 clubs participated, conducting 59 community service projects all over Colorado. It was an exciting day, where our Rotarians and community members could feel the impact they were making.”
