WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. . .
We have great programs!
Mike Dow shared the stories of his fascinating career and family last week. He and his family are hosting our exchange student Raphael, from Switzerland, for part of the year.
Club Secretary Bob Fritz showed us slides from the homes and commercial projects for which he did engineering. Oh, and a good story about Sturgis.
MESSAGE FROM
PRESIDENT ED:

Hey Englewood Rotarians,

Dawn Shepherd has successfully organized two holiday bell-ringing sessions for the Salvation Army at King Soopers on Yosemite and Belleview. On the afternoon of Nov. 24 Dawn, Spence, Bob, Patty and Mike will participate. On the afternoon of Dec. 1 Dawn, Frank, Jim and Ed will be there. Kudos to Dawn, and thanks to everyone helping with this nice event.

We received an overwhelming response from the three Air Force bases in Colorado Springs with requests for assistance from our military program. We have 64 military families to shop for,  so there is a lot of volunteer work needed to complete the project.

We have received volunteers from North Colorado Springs RC, East Colorado Springs RC and members from the previous InterQuest RC of Colorado Springs. There are still two areas where we need Englewood volunteers:

(1) Between Nov 1 and Nov 16,to buy clothing and gifts requested for each family member, gift wrap and deliver to staging point in Colorado Springs between 9:00 AM and 12:00 Noon on Nov. 17 (we do have volunteers to deliver gifts to Colorado Springs, if you can’t manage that aspect),  and

(2) On Nov. 17, to shop Costco for groceries, deliver to staging point, organize food and wrapped gifts for each family and assist military personnel with pick-up. Details will follow soon.  Please contact Dawn or Patty to volunteer.

Happy Hour is this week, Wed. Oct. 24, at Zane’s Italian Bistro, 8101 E Belleview Ave, Denver 80237, 6:00 PM. Sorry I will not be there  I am staying with my two granddaughters in Colorado Springs while their dad, Chris, is elk hunting in NW Colorado.

On the 31st, there is no regular meeting due to Halloween. So the next regular meeting is Nov.7.  Hope to see you then.

To attend the Englewood C of C Annual Service Club and Community Leaders Luncheon on Oct. 30, RSVP to Patty.  We have 18 signed up so far; come even if you haven’t signed up in advance. The $20 cost will be paid by the club. (Note from Patty: We’re honoring Ed as Rotarian of the Year at this lunch.)

$10,060.61!

That's a fabulous number, Englewood Rotarians! And we earned it at our 2nd Annual Fall Harvest Wine-tasting. Our Englewood Foundation president Josh Staller reported the final figure this week.

Way to go, us!

ROTARY EDUCATION

Pakistan's rise to zero

From rotary.org

At a busy toll plaza in Kohat, Pakistan, a three-member vaccination team is working fast. Outfitted in blue Rotary vests and flanked by armed military personnel, Rotary vaccinators wade through a sea of traffic to find any child who hasn’t received the polio vaccine. Pakistan and Rotary have turned what was 'a badge of shame' into a model for disease eradication.
