Raphael Schmid, our exchange student from Switzerland, visited last week. It was the first opportunity many of our members had had to get to know him. We are co-sponsoring Raphael with Centennial Rotary. He is attending Cherry Creek High School, currently living with the Dows.
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ED:
Hey Englewood Rotarians,
Wed. Oct. 17 there will be a Board meeting following the regular meeting. On the agenda will be updated financial reports on the Foundation and operating accounts from Paula and Jerry. We will also review priorities for funding projects for the upcoming year. Paula will give an update on her proposed AMS reading program.
Implementation of our Military and Veterans Appreciation and Support Program is upon us. With approximately 50 military families to reach out to, there is a mountain of volunteer work needed to complete the project.
There are two areas of need: (1) Between Nov 1 and Nov 16, buy clothing and gifts requested for each family member, gift wrap and deliver to staging point in Colorado Springs between 10:00 AM and 12:00 Noon on Nov. 17; and (2) On Nov. 17, Shop Costco for groceries, deliver to staging point, organize food and wrapped gifts for each family and assist military personnel with pick-up. A detailed handout and sign-up sheet will be provided Wed.
Our Happy Hour this month is Oct. 24 at Zane’s Italian Bistro, 8101 E Belleview Ave, Denver 80237, 6:00 PM. If you plan to attend and haven’t already registered, please sign the sign-up sheet at Wed. meeting. Spouses are of course welcome.

How Gueoul girls made
a newspaper
Amanda McCracken spoke to us last week about the online newspaper she helped Gueoul girls create.
I commend you to check it out. https://gueoulnews.com/
It's wonderful. You see the girls and hear their voices as they report the news of Gueoul -- way out of their comfort zone, but incredibly empowering. Be sure to click on the videos.
Thanks to Amanda and Judy Beggs, who led the overall Rotary project this summer, helping the community teach and learn English as a Second Language. -- Patty Burnett
