WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. . .
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT GARY

Hi Rotarians,

I hope you are safe and enjoying some of the nice summer weather, but not getting too hot.

I would like to thank Larry Matten for doing such a great job of giving us a much-needed view of a calmer world, which I hope we can all enjoy in the not too distant future. Thanks Larry, for putting such wonderful pictures together; I know we all enjoyed your presentation.

This week, we have an outstanding speaker lined up. Brittany “Bert” Woodrum has been doing these presentations for various Rotary Clubs in our area and will have some great pictures of her in her quest to climb all 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado with her ShelterBox.

She has won at least one award from Rotary and is very much into charitable giving for the ShelterBox programs. I hope you will be able to join us at 1:00 pm on Wednesday on Zoom, and if you can, please bring a friend or colleague.

In addition, we have some outstanding speakers for the next two weeks, but need to find a member or other interested person to give a presentation on August 12 when Co-President Susan will be conducting the meeting.

Don’t forget the Board meeting on July 22 following our regular meeting. Have a safe and enjoyable week!!
                                           -- Gary

Update on our polio cause

From rotary.org

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.

As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979.

We've helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries. So far, Rotary has contributed more than $1.8 billion toward eradicating the disease worldwide.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.
