We have a very special speaker this week:
Our own Diane Arave. Diane is a retired health educator, among her many talents. She will be talking about how we can motivate ourselves to live healthier.
Diane also is bringing us Valentines for Vets, in partnership with Cruisin' 1430 AM Radio. We'll have some valentines for you to sign with warm wishes and thank-yous for veterans currently in the VA Hospital. The radio station believes these might be the only cards or recognition some of the vets receive. So we'll do our part.
PLUS!!! Girls basketball
Our Foundation gave $1,500 for girls sports at Englewood High School. We'll have six of the girls and coach Thomas Rode join us for lunch. I hope to spread the girls around so we can all benefit from their enthusiasm for their sport and school.
Thomas came to us because the team needed money to pay for bus transportation to games, for practice uniforms and even shoes. We helped.
Pay attention, now
Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, we've invited a speaker from Project Angel Heart. Get it: Valentine's. . . Heart. This is a very worthy charity that takes special-menu meals to shut-ins with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other illnesses.
They have a fund-raiser at Thanksgiving. They sell pies. Bob and I bought two. Yummy.
Then on Feb. 21 Dawn has arranged for Troy Gladwell to talk with us. He is the developer of an exciting new senior housing resident in Englewood. I want us to focus on the City of Englewood to a great degree for the rest of this Rotary year, and he will be spectacular.
Then our schedule gets a little tricky. Instead of a happy hour the last week of the month, we'll be getting happy at the fun fund-raiser of Integrated Family Community Services (used to be Inter-Faith). We still have a few free seats available. It's a huge sampling of local restauranteurs' good, wine, other beverages, and a fantastic auction. Feb. 24, 5-9, in the DTC.
So this is why I say "pay attention." We have some fabulous speakers ahead (bring a guest) and an odd end of the month, but fabulous fun event.
See you there! Patty
