Y'all come. . .
to this week's meeting. We have a great speaker, Penny Nissan, telling us about the Mizel Museum.
I've never been, but I certainly know the name Mizel as huge in philanthropy here and in other cities.
Mr. Google, well, actually the museum website, tells me this, though: It's an educational, nonprofit organization that addresses today’s social justice issues through the lens of Jewish history and values.
The museum is dedicated to fostering cross-cultural understanding, combating racism and promoting social justice. Sounds quite Rotarian! -- Patty
South Metro Medical
Loan Closet
If you look ahead on our speakers list, you'll see Donna Ralston coming to tell us about the South Metro Medical Loan Closet. This is a wonderful service, and I believe it bears consideration for support from Englewood Rotary.
I've borrowed a wheelchair, I've given a wheelchair, as well as my mother's canes. It's a free service. And it's great for people who might have short-term needs, as I did when I broke my knee-cap, or for out-of-town visitors.
In Englewood, we could promote it and help families get expensive medical equipment "on loan" for free.
They're also looking for volunteer help, which is something we, um, older folks, can do (unlike building a Habitat house or raking leaves, etc.) Volunteers take shifts to answer the phone (which is forwarded to their cells) and help people, as they need.
They're holding an Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the facility, 6825 S. Dallas Court, Greenwood Village. Dawn has volunteered to represent us, but I'd love to see a bigger contingent. They see Rotary Clubs as like-minded people -- service! -- who might join with them. I agree.
Directions: from I-25, go East on Arapahoe Road to Dayton St. Turn
south (right) and go to the end of the street. The Greenwood Village
Post Office will be on your right. Turn right on to Costilla, then immediately right again onto S. Dallas Ct. It looks like an alley or
warehouse area. We are 2/3 of the way down the alley on the left. The logo is on the door. -- Patty
