WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Backpacks! Notebooks!
Vee, John and Patty delivered almost $800 worth of backpacks and school supplies to Englewood Middle School Tuesday. School starts tomorrow, and students will be glad to have this support. We're glad our Englewood Rotary Foundation can do this important work.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT GARY

Hi Rotarians, I hope you are well and were able to attend our meeting with Rotary District Governor Bob Kemp last week. I thought he did an excellent job in talking about the many activities and  challenges that we have over the next year as Rotarians in our 5450 District.

I hope you will continue to work with others to look for ways to improve our Club, participate in our leadership positions, support our service projects, bring new ideas and energy to our Club, look for and ask others to attend our Zoom meetings and become Englewood Rotarians, despite the challenges of Zoom meetings and the pandemic limitations on group meetings and our valued service projects.

We hope that you will be able to attend our upcoming Happy Hour hosted by Linda and Bruce Spear today at 6:00 pm. Linda has indicated that this will be the last meeting that she will be hosting, and I want to thank both Linda and Bruce for the many hours of assistance they have given to the Club for the monthly Happy Hour meetings on Zoom since March.

If we are going to continue to have these happy hours or other group meetings, I hope that one of our Rotarians will step forward and help our Club by hosting future sessions.

In addition, as you may know, President Susan VanDyke will be taking over the responsibilities as President of the Club, starting on October 1,  and I am asking you to support her in her efforts by taking over the responsibility for programs and speakers during her term as a member of the Board, taking over the responsibility of membership, or actively taking a lead on projects like the one described by our Governor for May 7 or May 8 in Englewood, serving as a member of our Board of Directors, or any other avenue of service or project that you believe we should participate in.

As you fill out and send in your survey about the Club, please give some thought about how you may be able to take a more active role in our Club, as our Club transitions into next year.

Finally, as you are aware, every year our Club is required to have one person selected as President-Elect for the next year. I, like several others in our Club have taken on this very critical and important role several times over the last several years. I am asking each member to determine how they can help our Club and am asking you to let Susan or me know if you would consider taking on this responsibility.

We are required to inform the District by the end of the year regarding who this person is, but this person’s responsibilities will not fully start until July 1, 2021 (except that the person will be required to attend a very interesting and informative Presidents-Elect Training Conference in February of 2021).

I hope you will strongly consider serving in this role, which is absolutely critical to the future of our Club.

I would also like to thank Vee Sabel and Dawn Shepherd and any others involved for your very special work with the Englewood School District to provide backpacks to many middle schoolers returning to school this week. Thank you so much for your efforts on behalf of our Club.

As you know, we will be dark next week, and I wish you the best during a week off. On September 9, 1, and 25th, we have a great lineup of speakers that our members have all suggested, including “Be a Tool Neighbor” regarding Englewood’s Neighborhood Service Organizatio; Build a Better Colorado, regarding the upcoming Ballot Issues, and the Cancer League.

I look forward to seeing you at these upcoming meetings and in assisting President Susan as she begins her term in October.  Please consider the many ways you can help us meet the challenges we are facing to continue to improve our Rotary Club.
