I attended the Rotary President-elect Training Seminar over the weekend. We were reminded that Rotary began the world-wide effort to eradicate polio, in 1985, There were 365,000 cases of polio in the world, in almost every country except the United States. Last year there were just 37, an extraordinary accomplishment, saving so many lives and preventing so much tragedy.
Now it exists only in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria, and as long as there is a single case, there is a chance for polio to spread. So vaccinations must continue, and Rotarians must do our part to support that effort financially and in volunteer work. -- Patty
