Check ouT your Board's decisions
Rotarians, your Board of Directors has made some key decisions, and a few itsy ones, for us.
First, the board reviewed the rates paid by Active Members, Young Professional Members, Rotary Partner Members and Friends of Englewood Rotary. The headline is: No Change For Active Members, though we will revisit that in March.
Our meal costs have gone down, but because of our diligent Treasurer's analysis and budget-making for us, we are aware that our "other" costs (dues, Rotary materials, flowers, financial auditing, etc.) are higher than we previously understood. We want to see the math over the next few months. No one is proposing an increase.
Because our Treasurer, Larry Matten, did this analysis, and because of our lower food costs, we realized the potential to lower the rate for Young Professionals from $125 to $105 per quarter. We know that cost is one obstacle to participation by persons early in their careers. We have three YPs: Ted Atchity, Dana Laguna and Katie Wright.
The board reviewed and went on record for rates for Rotary Partners -- $120 a year for RI and District dues, plus meals paid at the door. We have two Rotary Partners, Linda Spear and Bob Burdick. There was no change affecting Friends of Englewood Rotary, who pay only for meals, at the door. We have one Friend of Englewood Rotary, Brian Cousineau.
In other financial "housekeeping," the board established the guest rate of $15, chose to save money by no longer offering dues payment by credit card and to stop buying carnations for our guests.
The board benefitted from the attendance of Assistant District Governor Randy Pye, who counseled us on potential liability regarding our happy hours. As a result, we will have a new procedure for happy hours, similar to how we handled the dinner at Perfect Landing. We will rebate Rotarians $20 in cash at happy hours, and participants will pay their total bills individually or by couple.
In the "itsy" category, the board established a budget for the holiday party and authorized inquiry into our audio-visual needs in our new venue.
Do I hear a "whew"? Your board was busy.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
Please check out the Upcoming Events list here and later dates, below. Mark your calendars for two holiday parties -- one for the Head Start kids at the Village Preschool, and one for us!
You'll also see a bevy of days we are DARK. The Meridian folks just asked me what DARK meant. It means we aren't having a regular meeting at the Meridian. Instead, there's a holiday on the calendar or a happy hour or maybe just a little Rotary time out!
Don't say I didn't warn you. It's a complicated end-of-the-year calendar.
EXCELLENT SPEAKERS AHEAD
We have two Rotarians from other clubs talking to us about their special experiences and Rotary passions: Melly Kinnard on her travels and Kendal Knetemann on a language project.
Then there's Mary Taylor Young, who is the fabulous expert on Rocky Mountain National Park. She has written several books on this nearby gem. She is a former columnist for the Rocky Mountain News and will be introduced by Bob Burdick, former Rocky editor.
And Brian Vogt, the CEO of Denver Botanic Garden, is coming. Don't miss out!
